Overview

Exponent Case Management (ECM) illustrates the difference between a platform and a vertical solution built on a platform. Native Salesforce provides CRM infrastructure; ECM adds a human services data model — case records, units of service, inbound/outbound referrals, program enrollments, and assessments with outcome progress — plus 31 prebuilt reports and preconfigured intake, service tracking, and funder-reporting workflows (WIOA, Vocational Rehabilitation, and as of March 2026 a HUD CoC APR dashboard with Sage-validated exports).

The commercial model layers on Salesforce: the AppExchange listing requires Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, or Platform licenses, prices ECM starting at $240 per user per year for nonprofits, and states that professional services are required to implement the application. Delivery options range from custom implementations by Exponent Partners' services team to ECM Flex (deliberately prescriptive pre-configured software with managed services) and Rapid Deployment (single-program pilots in as little as six weeks).

ECM targets mid-to-large human services organizations across workforce development, youth and family services, child welfare, homeless services, reentry, and disability services.

Editorial analysis

Best suited for

Case Management Guide analysis

Multi-program human services organizations that want Salesforce's platform extensibility with a purpose-built human services data model, and can fund an implementation project.

Considerations

Case Management Guide analysis

Total cost spans Salesforce licenses, the ECM subscription, and required implementation services. Organizations without Salesforce administration capacity should weigh the managed-service (ECM Flex) option.
